Star Hotel History

Formerly an old coaching inn built in 1785 and known then as 'The Pend' (an old Scots word Meaning ‘close’ or ‘alleyway’), the Star Hotel at Twynholm has been renowned for over two centuries for its hospitality, accommodation and good quality meals.

Twynholm is the birthplace of David Coulthard who has become the highest British Points scorer of all time!  The Coulthard museum, located next to the hotel, has an impressive collection of cars, trophies and racing paraphenalia.                     

Over the years many famous people have visited the Star Hotel, including; Wilfred Pickles (radio broadcaster), Violet Carson (Ena Sharples in Coronation Street), James Robertson Justice (actor), Gary Lineker (TV presenter and former England football international), Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street), Murray Walker (former F1 commentator), and Jackie Stewart (three times F1 world champion)..
